March PTA Meeting Summary

Missed the PTA Meeting on Thursday? At our March 23rd PTA meeting our Principal Deanna Sinfield presented her Principal’s report.  After a spike last month, our Norovirus numbers are beginning to drop again.  Thank you for your diligent efforts to wash hands and keep sick kids home for at least 48 hours after symptoms.

Our PTA President Megan Histand presented her report. Summer Adventure Registration is live.  If you haven’t yet signed up for Summer Adventure, it is filling up quickly.   Your child brought home the registration form in their backpack or you can sign up here.  The SMMEF Concert for the Arts raised over $88,000.  Thank you to everyone who attended.  Tickets for the Wine Auction are on sale now.  The event sold out last year, so don’t delay in purchasing your tickets.  There is one more community meeting on March 27 where the Malibu Unification Committee will present their report.  See details of the meeting  here, or read the complete report here. After the tragic death of a SAMOHI student, the PTA is looking for ways to help our community.  If you know of any good parent education groups regarding drugs and alcohol use in teens, please email the president at franklinptapresidents@gmail.com .

The PTA membership approved the Final Audit from the 2016-2017 School Year.  The membership also approved spending $75,000 to install a large sun shade over the concrete on the big yard. We hope this shade will be installed over the summer in time for the start of the 2017-2018 school year.  See the plan here.

Our Nominating Committee presented the Slate for the 2017-2018 School Year. Many thanks to the members of this committee for all their hard work.   See the complete list of recommendations here.  At our Annual Election on April 25th, the nominating committee will present the slate.  Franklin PTA Members are also welcome to nominate themselves or someone else from the floor. The privilege of nominating from the floor is extended to members of the association who are present, whose dues are paid, and who have been members of the association for at least 30 days.

Steve Cannell presented his report from his trip to Sacramento Safari!  Thanks to Steve and our Legislation Chair, Katy Henrickson, for taking time out of their schedules to represent Franklin in Sacramento.

The PTA Meeting was followed by our Honorary Service Awards.  Volunteers are part of what make Franklin an extraordinary school.  Many thanks to our Award Recipients this year for all their continued work on behalf of the students at Franklin.  Awards were presented to Anita-Marie Laurie, Eirlys McKenzie, Lydia Muraro, Cathy Lee, Ryan McKenzie, Lisa Piper, Wendy Woodhall, Ann Dreifort, Nancy S. Wu, Sima Shahmoradi, Nancy Corshen, Susan Sheu, Connie Goetz, Mr. Reff, Ms. Threlkeld, Ms. Skorko, Deanna Sinfield, Gloria Mandell, Janine Brownstone, Murphy Brown, Bette Fruchtman, Milton Alex, Joann Cage and Anthony Quintano.
