Thanks to the hard work by Franklin PTA Culmination Co-Chairs Kara Boccella and Melissa Varo, with a little help from Mother Nature, our amazing 5th graders and their biggest fans enjoyed a memorable ceremony of epic proportions! Proud parents were dazzled by the dancing, blown away by the backflipping, and speechless about the singing throughout the entire performance. Touching moments included a tribute to each and every teacher that has shaped our 5th graders at Franklin, a poignant speech by our beloved principal Deanna Sinfield, and the many solo performances by talented singers and musicians.
We will miss each and every one of our 133 outgoing fifth graders, but we know in our hearts that they are ready to ignite the light! Good luck in middle school!
A webmaster (from web and master), also called a web architect, web developer, site author, website administrator, website coordinator, or website publisher is a person responsible for maintaining one or many websites.
The Franklin PTA is in search of one of these! We have but one website that we have nearly finished revamping (you’re going to love it!) but now need help with the somewhat technical issues that remain before we can make it live! Since time is of the essence (less than three months until the new school term begins!), and the current staff of parents (two of us) who are working on the website are long on desire but short on time, we are waving the white flag and asking for help from our parents. Experience desired!
Please contact our volunteer coordinator Alison at email@example.com today! Thank you!
Hot off the presses! Help Wanted ads for many of our open positions have been posted for the 2017-18 School Year! The positions include Chairs, Lead Volunteers, and Committee Members. Check out the bulletin board across from Room 3 for details. Please contact John Jericiau, PTA President-Elect if you are interested. Thank you!
The PTA is a 100% volunteer organization and we rely on each and every parent’s participation! Please get involved and everyone wins (most importantly our children!)

The Franklin PTA Culmination Committee is at it again with another FUN – raiser! On Thursday, March 2nd, the Franklin community will converge onto California Pizza Kitchen at 201 Wilshire Blvd, who will generously donate 20% of all revenue back to the Franklin PTA! This is a great time to take out the family, celebrate a special event, or order to-go at one of our favorite local venues. You can even have CPK delivered to your home that day (but it must be ordered directly from CPK, not GrubHub, etc) Please remember to bring your flyer with you to the restaurant – rules prohibit the PTA from distributing it at the restaurant!
Enjoy your day at CPK! And thanks for supporting our 5th grade culmination!

A big THANK YOU to all who took part in this year’s Pennies for Patients campaign! As a result of reaching into purses and wallets and piggy banks, we were able to donate a grand total of $3732.61 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which surpassed our total donation from last year! A special shout out to Dana Kotler, our own Franklin PTA 4th Vice President, for spearheading the campaign.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.
Congratulations to the Franklin PTA Culmination Committee, who raised over $900 in this past weekend’s Montana $1 Bake Sale to raise funds for our 5th grader’s June 7th gala! Parents and kids alike gave up their Sunday morning by donating baked goods and/or their time in order to produce a yummy and spectacular community event!
Culmination is Franklin’s 5th grade graduation ceremony, held every June on the big yard for family members, followed closely by a celebration on the front yard for the kids to reflect on their years at Franklin (in this case, “reflect” means eat and be merry!) The Franklin PTA as well as the parents of fifth graders contribute to the Culmination Fund every year, but additional funds raised (such as the proceeds from the bake sale) help to make the celebration that much more special! Thank you for your help!
On the day before Thanksgiving, Franklin Mom Dana Hagooli was hit in the head by a football while at Tongva Park. Some high school kids were playing nearby and the ball hit her head and caused a traumatic brain injury. She has since gone deaf in one ear, has continuous extreme vertigo, has trouble with sensory integration, and has a very acute case of tinnitus (loud continuous screaming in her head.) She is still in a very fragile state and ambulation continues to be a difficult task. Although she has shown some improvement, she continues to have a long road ahead of her.
Many in the Franklin community have already helped her and her family out a great deal. Dana and her family are so thankful for the meals and love! It has helped Dana and her husband Oscar and their FOUR children in ways you cannot imagine. Since Dana is still struggling at this time, a meal train that was established in November will be extended. Sign up here if you wish: https://mealtrain.com/q7eze9 . And if you see her three oldest kids on campus – Mia (Mrs. Maeder), Coby (Mrs. Threlkeld), Noah (Mrs. Badt) – be sure to give them a special hello or high-five.
The Franklin PTA considers each and every parent, guardian, and child in the Franklin community a member of the Franklin family. A special PTA fund has been set aside called Franklin Cares, whereby members of our Franklin family can discreetly receive assistance in times of severe hardship. The Franklin community replenishes this fund with a modest annual donation ($5) requested in the beginning of each school year in the first day packets. Thank you so much for your continued support of this program.
If a parent of a student with an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) wishes to speak with another parent of a student with disabilities, SMMUSD parents of students with disabilities have volunteered to provide support and guidance. This support may especially be helpful to parents of students whose children are newly identified. If interested in speaking with another parent, please write or call the contact at the district office:
