SITE GOVERNANCE COUNCIL PARENT ELECTION
The Franklin Elementary School Site Governance Council (SGC) is looking for parents to run for membership. This year’s election is for six parent representatives, each serving a two-year term. The SGC is involved in many interesting and important aspects of the school, including budget, facilities, technology, and curriculum support.
REPRESENTATION
The SGC consists of 11 members of the staff (teachers, administration, and classified personnel) and 11 parent representatives. The term of service for parent members is two years, but terms are staggered to maintain continuity.
Ideally, representatives on Site Governance reflect the diversity of students, settings, and instructional experiences at our school. The elected parents therefore represent the diversity of our learning community, and we actively encourage representation from all members of the Franklin parent body.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Membership on the SGC entails attending monthly meetings that are generally conducted on the last Monday of the month at 3:15 p.m. These meetings are vital to the Council’s role, and attendance is strongly encouraged.
ELIGIBILITY AND ELECTION
In order to be eligible for election, a candidate must have children at Franklin during the 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 school years.
To add your name to the ballot, please submit a brief biography (5-6 lines only) via email to Justine Gilman by Friday, May 3, 2013. If you do not have access to email and prefer to submit a written statement, you may submit it to the front office by the end of the day on Friday, May 3.
Ballots will be sent home with the children the week of May 13th, and you will be able to vote through the end of the day on Friday, May 24th. There will be a box in the front office where you can turn in your ballots.
Parents, please consider participating in this vital group. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tara Brown, Justine Gilman (jgilman@usc.edu), or Debbie Bernstein (TrixiPost@verizon.net).
