Dear Parents, June 5, 2014
It is with heartfelt words that I write this letter to inform you that as of July 1, 2014, I will be leaving the position of Principal at Franklin Elementary School and promoting to a new position as Director of Student Services for the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District. I have served in two districts as an elementary school principal since 2001 and it is now 2014. I can’t believe how fast the time has flown by! Time flies when you are having fun and enjoying what you do every day, which has definitely been true for me!
It has been an honor and pleasure to serve as Principal at Franklin Elementary School since September 2006. I hope you know how much I have enjoyed these last eight years. It has been my good fortune to experience a wonderful partnership with students, staff, and families in our community. I want you to know that in making this decision, the one and only regret and source of great emotion for me is the thought of leaving such an extraordinary school community that I have had the privilege to call my “Franklin Family”. We have the most positive, innovative and hard working staff; the most supportive, positive, and social justice minded group of families; and the most incredible, compassionate, and hard working students. I absolutely love Franklin, and it has been my honor and pleasure to serve you the past eight years. You are all my “Franklin Friends.”
Ms. Deanna Sinfield, currently my Assistant Principal at Franklin, will become the Principal at Franklin Elementary school effective July 1, 2014! One of the highlights of my tenure at Franklin has been working as a team with Ms. Sinfield. We have been a cohesive team working together to achieve the mission and vision of Franklin School and it has been a rewarding and successful partnership both for us and for Franklin! Franklin has received TWO California Distinguished School awards under our leadership. I am enthusiastic and confident that going forward, Ms. Sinfield will keep Franklin moving forward on a path of continued excellence for every student in all areas. We will continue to work together during this transition period on the class placements as well as with making plans for the 2014-2015 school year.
I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve you, your children and this outstanding school community and hope you know that I am especially proud of our “Distinguished” learning community. Thank you for your kindness and support of me all these years. It has meant more to me than you can imagine! Thank you all for your commitment and your continued dedication to our school, staff, and students. It is because of you and the staff that I know Franklin Elementary School will continue to be a “Distinguished” place to learn and grow. I look forward to hearing great things about our students’ accomplishments as they continue their education at Franklin Elementary School and beyond!
Mrs. Tara Brown, Principal
