Can You Meet the Trashless Fall Picnic Challenge?
The Franklin Fall Picnic is coming up TONIGHT, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on the Idaho playing field. This is a fun and relaxing event where you can mingle with new and old friends. Why not make this year’s picnic green by packing a trash-free picnic or by recycling your waste? We can all make a big difference by using the 4Rs: RETHINK, REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE!
– RETHINK: Can you bring silverware or reusable utensils? Reusable water bottles instead of plastic? Cloth napkins or handkerchiefs instead of paper napkins? (Baby washcloths are smaller and may even be easier to use!)
– REDUCE: If you order take-out, refuse what you don’t need like bags, napkins, condiment, and plastic utensils.
– REUSE: Short on time? Cook two family servings of dinner earlier in the week and pack one of them in reusable containers.
– RECYCLE: Santa Monica recycles plastics 1-7! Get your kids to show off their sorting skills!
And of course, remember that you can help the environment and your family’s health by walking, biking, or scooting to the picnic!
