Franklin families have at least TWO ways to help families in need this Thanksgiving:
1. Turkey Drive – On Tuesday, November 22 from 8:00 to 8:45am, families can bring frozen, whole, uncooked turkeys to the Idaho valet or the Montana kindergarten gate, where volunteers will collect your donations. Or if you’d rather donate from your living room, families can go online to the Westside Food Bank’s virtual turkey drive and donate. Go to WestsideFoodBankCA.org, and under the “How to Help” drop-down, select “Turkey Drive” and shop away! After you make your selections and pay for your items, the site will ask you to select your school, so make sure you select Franklin Elementary (note, you want to select the “Turkey Drive” and NOT the “Virtual Food Drive”). It’s a fun, interactive experience that you can do with your kids: help them shop in the “virtual” store to purchase turkeys and other traditional Thanksgiving food items for those in need.
2. Stuffed Animal Drive – We are collecting stuffed animals for kids in need! On Thanksgiving Day, the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System in West LA will be hosting a dinner for those in our community in need, including low-income and homeless families. Please bring your new or gently-used stuffed animals to the collection box outside the front of the school before or after school between now and Tuesday, November 22 (or bring them to the turkey collection at the Montana kindergarten and Idaho gates on Tuesday morning, November 22). Our goal is to provide every child coming to the event on Thanksgiving with a stuffed animal to take home with them. For more information about the event, go to westsidethanksgiving.org.
