Missed the PTA Meeting on Thursday? At our December 15th PTA meeting our Principal Deanna Sinfield presented her Principal’s report. Franklin continues to enjoy a wonderful school year with many innovative and exciting programs. We also look forward to a visit from our new Superintendent, Dr. Ben Drati, who will assume the post on January 1st, 2017.
Our PTA President Megan Histand presented updates about fundraising and membership, as well as a brief overview of the Executive Board meeting. The Executive Board is drafting a letter to the school district from the Franklin PTA, encouraging the school district to address some of the facilities issues currently facing our school. Also, our Special Needs Committee will be sending out a survey in early 2017 to assess how to best meet the needs of all families at Franklin.
We heard a presentation from our Budget/Spend Down Committee Chair Alexis Elsea, including a proposal to update a number of facilities-related projects. After the presentation our membership unanimously voted to approve funds for new sunshades to replace the old and damaged tarps on the structures in the breezeway and along the kinder yards. It also voted to replace the old outdoor tables under those canopies and throughout the campus. We will also be purchasing two new enclosed outdoor bulletin boards, one to be posted near the Idaho gate and one near the Montana kinder entrance, in order to help keep our parents more informed about the events and programs at Franklin and the community. We also voted to approve, as a safety measure and for esthetic purposes, new pole wraps for the basketball courts. Finally, we voted to approve a special “one-time” grant for our wonderful teachers. Each teacher can now ask for up to an additional $1,000 to help fund an innovative program or a special project in the classroom. The PTA is happy to be able to enhance the educational experience of our children at Franklin with all of these improvements!
We heard from the chair of our ByLaws Committee. We are currently in the process of updating our ByLaws. We are also revitalizing our Gardening Committee. If you are interested in helping out with gardening, please contact us at franklinptapresidents.com.
Our SMMEF Chair Gabriella Hadley presented an update on all SMMEF-related projects. SMMEF is ending its solicitation campaign to parents on January 31st, 2017. If you haven’t given yet, please go to www.smmef.org/donate and consider donating any amount that is meaningful to you.
A big thanks to our Holiday Book Fair co-chairs Kelli Hass and Jessica Levin! During book fair week (December 12-16th) the cafeteria was transformed into a winter wonderland, children filled their backpacks with new books, and the PTA raised thousands of dollars that will be used to fund even more exciting things for our kids, so stay tuned!
