The crosswalk at 24th/Washington is finally safer! Meet Ted, the new Crossing Guard placed at this intersection by the Police Department because the city recognized there is serious concern with our pedestrian routes to school, especially those along the Washington Ave. corridor. He is there during Drop Off and Pick Up hours and ensures a safe walk to and from school.
While this is a fantastic first step towards a safer walk to school, we are far from finished with our petition for increased safety modifications around the school and are still working to ensure that additional visibility measures be put in place such as: repainting of crosswalks with flashing lights, flashing yield signs and even sidewalk build outs. If you’re interested in learning more about these efforts, please reach out to Alexis Hemphill-Elsea at email@example.com. In the meantime, don’t forget to cross with Ted!
