Turn in Your Pennies for Patients Tomorrow, Friday, February 9, 2018

Turn in your Pennies for Patients tomorrow!  Each year the Franklin PTA participates in a nationwide program called Pennies for Patients to raise money and help support the mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer.

Pennies for Patients is a three-week program for Elementary and Middle Schools where students collect change and raise funds online while learning about service and philanthropy. More than 13 million students and 850,000 educators in 27,000 schools across the U.S. participate annually.

Our goal is to raise $4,000 this year to top our amazing collection from last year! That’s about $5 a child. We can do it! Running this year from January 22 through February 9, thePTA asks that you encourage your kids to collect spare change (or more) in honor of children battling cancer.

On Monday, January 22nd every child will receive a collection container and information in their backpacks. Please review the material with your child(ren). You can also donate online by visiting this website and clicking on “Donate to a Participating School.” Please bring collection containers to your teacher in the classroom by Friday, February 9th. Email Jill Nunes Jensen at jnunes@lmu.edu or Jennifer Roback jenroback@yahoo.com if you have any questions. Thank you for helping with this worthy cause!

10 Ways to Support Your Child during their Pennies for Patients Program

1). Talk to your child about the value of giving!

2). Share your child’s classroom, school or individual fundraising page with friends and family. See Online Giving for ideas.

3). Each day, ask your child about the program.

4). Take a coin collection jar to work.

5). Ask if your child would like to write a letter to an Honored Hero (see website for details).

6). Make a personal donation with a check or online gift.

7). Ask your company about matching gifts.

8). Ask your child if they have any questions about cancer.

9). Encourage your child to explore the “For Students” section of the LLS website.

10). Tell them you’re proud of them for making a difference!
