Valet has begun!

Just a few Valet reminders:

  • Only use the east Idaho gate for drop off.  The west gate is for walkers only.  If we see people dropping off at the west gate, that gate will be locked during drop off.
  • Please pull all the way forward before letting your child out of the car.
  • Have your children ready to go.  That means all of their things are with them, and they don’t have to look around for their things.  Do not open trunks, get out of your car, or stop for extended periods of time.
  • Please do not stop your car between 8am and 8:30am east of the alley and west of 23rd Street.  This is our drive through zone.
  • Please do not enter the teachers’ lot for any reason.  This is a very tight space and can be dangerous for students to walk through.
  • Please drive carefully.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for shifts to work Valet.  Every morning, the cones are put out for you.  Please collect the cones and place  them  by the gate on the metal posts at 8:35am.  Please also lock the east Idaho gate.

Thank you everyone!  You make this program a success!

Important SAFETY Issues

The district requires that students remain off of all playground equipment after school UNLESS they are signed into Playground Access. Franklin does not have supervision in either of the Kindergarten yards after school, and is not responsible for children playing on the yard after school.

Please do not allow your children to play in the Kindergarten yards after school! The playground structure on the large playground is for Playground Access students only.

We have observed many adults allowing Franklin students and toddlers to play on the playground structures after school. This is a liability and safety issue; PLEASE do not allow this. If you have someone else picking up your child after school, please inform them of the policy as well.

In addition, we have observed many dogs that are left alone tied to the fence during morning drop off and pick up. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS. Dogs must be kept off campus, unless they are trained service dogs (i.e.: Seeing Eye dogs, rescue dogs, police dogs, etc.).

Thank you for supporting us in keeping all students safe at Franklin!!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Tara Brown

From the Desk of Principal Tara Brown

We are off to an AMAZING start this year at Franklin Elementary School!

We have embarked on the school year with a renewed determination to create the most positive and challenging learning environment for our students. For our part, we will offer a first-rate educational experience and in return ask that you ensure your child’s regular attendance. We also ask that you make a genuine effort to be involved in your son’s or daughter’s school throughout the year. Let’s work together so that everyone wins: parents, teachers, and students.

Did you know that SMMUSD averages 500 student absences each day? I am pleased to say that these do not all belong to Franklin students; however, our percentage of absenteeism still needs to improve.
