SMMUSD Folklorico Dance Classes - Grades 3-5

SMMUSD launched new and exciting Ballet Folklorico classes for students in grades 3-5 in 2020-21 offered by the district at no cost to families!
Ballet Folklorico translates to “Folkloric Dance" in Spanish, also known as ballet folklórico, it is a collective term for traditional cultural dances that emphasize local folk culture with ballet characteristics – pointed toes, exaggerated movements and highly choreographed. Our Ballet Folklorico Director, Mr. Julio Bustos from the Teocalli Cultural Academy and I are excited to offer the classes again this year (2023-24) for the entire year and we are hoping to increase the enrollment of Ballet Folklorico students in all our schools.

If enough students sign up at a school a new class could be opened at that site! Click here to see a short video of our amazing students performing last May at the Magico Mexico Festival in Barnum Hall on the Samohi campus!

Student participants will attend two 90-minute classes after school each week (3 hours a week).

Classes will be taught at the following locations, and we still have room for more students to join!

Edison Language Academy Auditorium, 2402 Virginia Ave
Monday 3:30-5pm and Wednesday 2:15-3:45pm (two days a week)

McKinley Elementary Auditorium, 2401 Santa Monica Ave

Note: Classes will take place at a given site only if enrollment/interest is high enough to warrant having the class at that site. If your student is interested in taking the class at any of these locations, please complete the online form. Please share with your friends to join these classes that will provide a great and fun cultural experience for all students!
