SMMUSD Seeking Applicants for Facility District Advisory Committee

Share your voice. The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s (SMMUSD) Facility District Advisory Committees for Santa Monica (FDAC-SM) and Malibu (FDAC-M) are looking to fill vacant seats. The FDAC-SM is filling eight vacant seats. It is expanding its committee from nine members to 15 members in order to broaden the participation and advice coming from stakeholders. FDAC-M is looking to fill two vacant seats on its nine-member committee.

Qualified candidates will serve on one of the two subcommittees, the FDAC-SM or FDAC-M. The FDAC-M committee members will only advise on Malibu schools and the FDAC-SM members will advise on Santa Monica schools. Parents of current SMMUSD students are encouraged to apply.

The purpose of the FDAC is to provide the Board of Education and District staff with the community’s perspective regarding the use of bond funds for school sites and construction in conformance with board-established and approved goals and priorities. FDACs are also ambassadors to the community to help convey the goals and plans for improvements to the school facilities.

“We need more school site committee support, involvement and advice,” said Chief Operations Officer Carey Upton. “While it is important to have a range of stakeholders and community members participate in the discussions around school facilities, it is also valuable for parents to bring forth their point of view and experience. We all share a strong commitment to improving the educational facilities.”

Application forms are available at here.

Applications are received on an ongoing basis; however, the board facility sub-committees would like to review applications beginning in September and appoint the new members at the Sept. 21, 2023 school board meeting. Completed applications can be mailed to the District office at 1717 4th St., Santa Monica, CA 90401 or emailed to dacapps@smmusd.org.
