Parent Ed: Developing Empathy and Forging Lasting Friendships-Oct 22, 8:45am, Rm. 3
As parents, we want to raise our kids to be good humans. Part of that is developing empathy and forming meaningful connections with those around us. The PTA has invited Dr. Michael Carter of CSULA to talk about the realities of parenting with a mind to developing empathy and forging lasting friendships.
Dr. Carter serves as Coordinator of the school-based family counseling graduate program and director of CSULA’s school- based family counseling clinic. Dr. Carter began his career teaching social skills to children. He is primarily interested in preparing counselors to work with families and children in public agency settings such as schools and clinics. He believes that families can be the greatest positive influence on the academic and social development of children, which is maximized by actively involving parents in collaborating with teachers in the schools. Dr. Carter had three of his own children, so these subjects are both professional and personal for him.
