Protect SMMUSD Funding in the 2025-2027 Budget

The Santa Monica City Council and City staff are currently reviewing budget program priorities for its next biennial budget (2025 to 2027). At stake is nearly $40 million that the City allocates for SMMUSD programs and salaries. If this funding is cut, teacher jobs could be lost, and families may lose the use of SMMUSD playgrounds and fields on weekends, which provide much-needed community spaces for our children.

The Franklin PTA is encouraging parents to write and call our local Council members to advocate for the City Council to keep SMMUSD's funding whole. You can download a letter template here -- but it's better to personalize your letter and highlight the programs that you and your children love that might be at risk of being defunded! The PTA has been hard at work this season advocating with the City Council, and our local leaders are responsive and engaged. We encourage you to reach out to ensure that education funding is not affected by this latest budget cycle!
