SCIENCE CAMP IS BACK!

Franklin Fifth Grade Families!

Science camp is back! This year our fifth graders will be able to take a three-day, two-night trip to Catalina Island. We will leave early in the morning on February 27 and return the afternoon of March 1. The Catalina Environmental Leadership Program (CELP, pronounced “kelp”) is an overnight outdoor education program located on the west end of Catalina Island. While at CELP, students will be led on a variety of land and sea activities, each blending outdoor adventure with learning and team building. This trip will be a first-time experience for our Franklin students.

In order to fund this experience, we do rely on donations to help cover the cost of camp tuition, all food, and transportation by ferry and charter bus. The suggested donation amount is $500 per student. ($300 CELP fee, $150 transportation fee to cover the cost of round trip bus to San Pedro Port and back, round trip boat rides to and from Catalina Island, and a $50 chaperone and teacher supervision fee.)

Consistent with the “free school guarantee” and applicable law, no child will be denied participation in the field trip because of an inability to pay the cost of the field trip. Please contact Mr. Zeevi if you would like to discuss the requested donation. If you would like to contribute more than the suggested donation in order to help fund this amazing trip, we thank you in advance.

Please submit all donations by October 28. If you would like to submit the donation in two parts, please submit $300 by October 28 and $200 by December 2. Please make checks payable to Franklin PTA and turn them in to our front office OR donate via our online shop at: https://www.franklinschoolpta.org/shop/p/celp-5th-grade-overnight-trip We want all of our fifth graders to enjoy this wonderful experience!
